Small scale district heating with renewable energy sources - Experiences of Hungarian municipalities

9:00 - 12:00 CET, REKK Workshop

31 of January, 2023 - online

The drastic increase in energy prices experienced in recent years has led many municipalities to consider converting their heating systems to renewable energy sources in order to make their local energy supply more independent, and greener, and to increase the security of supply. But what are the options and how to start the path towards community heating based on renewable energy sources? At the online workshop, we took a look at how to replace individual gas heating with small-scale district heating systems based on biomass, geothermal or other renewable energy sources.

At the workshop, participants heard about the experiences of successfully completed geothermal and biomass projects, and learn about OGRE, a new Hungarian geothermal database. The presentations were followed by a round table discussion with experts in the design, construction and operation of geothermal and biomass heating systems who discussed the main challenges and possible solutions for the transition to renewable heating.

The language of the workshop was Hungarian. More information is available here.
