The key to further successful renewable energy auctions in Hungary

The results of the first renewable energy auction in Hungary have been published in March 2020. Although the auction was successful in attending investors and driving down support costs, market participants associated high risks with the auction scheme. In this policy brief we summerize the most important risk factors and analyse which of these arise from EU guidelines - and have thus to be regarded as key elements of the auctions - and which factors could be solved more easily by amending national legislation.
