Recent changes in the Hungarian Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme

REKK Market Monitoring Club

27 of June,

At REKK MarketMonitoring Club events, we analyse current energy market issues with a small group of key players in the sector. In the latest event, we dealt with the Hungarian Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme (EKR). In April 2025, Parliament adopted significant amendments to the text of Act LVII of 2015 on Energy Efficiency. In the next period, from 1 July 2025 to the end of 2027, the obligation for electricity and gas traders will increase significantly from 0.5% to 1.4%, and the rules for the eligibility of savings will be tightened. Long-term savings in the household sector will play a much greater role than before.
These far-reaching changes will have a significant business impact for all companies in the sector serving end-users. In the MarketMonitoring Club, we reviewed the likely impacts from the perspective of regulators, the relevant obligated parties.
