Batteries: a solution for energy storage and e-mobility

REKK Energy Futures workshop, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm CET

22 of February, 2022

Battery storage is considered one of the key technologies for the transition to a decarbonized energy system due to its broad application potential in the power and transport sectors. Research and innovation in recent years has resulted in lithium-ion batteries becoming smaller and more powerful, while the expansion in production has led to a significant drop in prices. Electric vehicle sales are surging, and utility-scale batteries are also emerging as a potential solution to increase system flexibility.

In 2017, the European Commission launched the European Battery Alliance (EBA) together with industry and academia. The aim of the EBA is to make Europe a global leader in sustainable battery production and use. Hungary presented its action plan for the battery sector in 2021 and is dedicated to attracting manufacturers and relocating production and R&D to Hungary.

The aim of the online webinar was to assess the potential of battery technologies for the decarbonization of the energy and transport sectors and to talk about the prerequisites for the development of a competitive battery value chain in the CEE region.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Diego Pavia, Chief Executive Officer at EIT InnoEnergy
  • Dr. Péter Kaderják, Head of Zero Carbon Hub
