Power system resilience: lessons from two recent events

15:00 – 16:45 Online workshop

31 of May, 2021

On 8 January 2021, the synchronous area of Continental Europe was separated into two regions due to outages of several transmission network elements. The automatic response and the coordinated actions taken by the TSOs in Continental Europe ensured that the situation was quickly restored close to normal operation. In February 2021, a series of severe winter storms swept across the United States, causing severe power outages and leaving millions in Texas without power. Our speakers explained what happened and discussed what are the lessons to be learnt from these events for strengthening the resilience of power systems.

The webinar was jointly organised by the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) and REKK.

Speakers of the event:

  • Mike Hogan, Senior Advisor, RAP
  • Bernard Malfliet, Operations Manager National Control Center at Elia, member of ENTSO-E Market Integration workforce
