The difference between Hungarian and German electricity prices (both spot and future) are the regular subject of market research. In recent years a persistent 8-10 EUR/MWh price difference between future prices can be observed, a relatively small time period but nonetheless an obvious trend. The spread is a burden for Hungarian industry and places the country at a competitive disadvantage. While there are a number of explanations offered for this discrepancy, there is no consensus among sector participants about the true weight of these potential factors or how they might be addressed. The aim of the Market Monitoring Club is to provide precisely this type of platform for the discussion of the true causes behind the price premium.
