The war against Ukraine has had a dramatic impact on the EU economy, with all four European macro-regions severely affected. Various interventions (REPowerEU, a series of sanctions) were aimed at accelerating the transition to clean energy and increasing market flexibility. The energy systems, national resources, infrastructures, economic development, etc. of each country differ greatly, and the responses to the crisis are therefore different.

As part of the 4th EU Macro-Regional Strategies Week, the Sustainable Energy Priority Area (PA2) of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and REKK organised an online session to present examples from the four EU macro-regions of the strategies and approaches they have adopted to increase energy sovereignty, phase out natural gas and prepare for the coming winter.
