The REKK Foundation participated in an international research project in cooperation with the Deutsche Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (DIW Berlin), the WiseEuropa and the Universidad Pontificia Comillas about the transformation of energy intensive industries in Central and South Europe. The project was supported by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI). The aim of the research was to examine the adaptation opportunities and processes of companies in the energy-intensive sectors (especially in the fields of cement, iron and steel, aluminium, chemical industry and oil refinery) to the stricter European energy efficiency and climate protection standards.
As part of the research, national roundtables were organized in Poland, Hungary and Spain, and in the light of their experiences, a European roundtable was held in Germany in the spring of 2019.
